Our History

Founded in 1977 by Greg Kenel, Creative Landscapes by Gregory, Inc began as a one-man residential maintenance and landscape operation based out of his parents' home. In 1981, the company had expanded; an 11-acre nursery in Silver Spring, Maryland was purchased to house its new facilities.

In 2005, Creative Landscapes by Gregory moved its headquarters to Frederick, Maryland. The facility there includes administrative offices, maintenance facilities, and a 20-acre nursery where thousands of trees and shrubs are housed for client needs and immediate use. In addition to our headquarters, CLBG continues to operate a tree farm located in Sunshine, Maryland. The company consists of 35 separate crews and has over 100 employees. Thirty years of continuous and outstanding service has established CLBG as a leading commercial landscaping company holding long-term relationships and contracts with major area builders and developers throughout the Washington DC Metro area.

In 2025, following Greg Kenel’s retirement, Oscar Cruz Sr. along with fellow employees took ownership under a new name, Creative Landscapes LLC.

Creative Landscapes continues to grow and branch into different divisions. Today, the company consists of commercial and residential landscape design, installation, construction, stone work, landscape maintenance.
